When I go to Devices and Printers, the devices are showing but the printers are gone. If I reboot, the printers return. While, rebooting does correct the problem, it is very annoying and causes loss of time.

If it doesn't detect your flash drive, the problem might be in your usb.
Have you tried updating to SP2? I have a similar problem. If I try to add a new printer using the "Add Printer" wizard, I get a dialog with the message: "Printer driver was not installed. Operation could not be completed. It doesn't matter what options I choose in the wizard - the problem happens regardless of what printer or port I select. If I could just convince a couple of customers to switch OS's, I'd install Linux on all my boxes, burn all my Windows disks, and never look back.
