Windows xp 16 bit mode

RDP runs in 16bit color. Then how come I can use Remote Desktop in Windows 7 to connect to another machine in bit color and with Aero though of course the latter doesn't really apply to XP Mode? Regardless of this, it is a step back from Virtual PC and a serious limitation. I was able to use XP with bit color which is the same as bit in Windows anyway and font smoothing. I just did what this blog say's to get bit in rdp with WinXP and it worked beautifully. I'm not sure it's necessary, but I also opened an RDP, set my color to bit and enabled font smothing on the experience tab and just connected to a system so that it would store the settings.
